Niki: ……

….Are we there yet~? I’m starting to get hungry over here!

Rinne: Don’t start complainin’ now. We just started driving, right? At least wait an hour before ya start yappin’ my ear off about it.

Anyways, how’re you two in the back doing? Did’ya figure out what we can do with that tablet yet?

HiMERU: —Yes. It seems that the staff left a doc open for us, summarizing the program’s outline on the app. It's like an instruction manual of sorts.

According to the doc, apparently this tablet has two main functions specialized for “Number Eight”.

One is the app that rolls the dice.

It is closely monitored and cannot be rolled again until we completed the mission given by the previous roll.

The dice in question is a regular dodecahedron1. Going off by the number of sides, it seems like there are twelve missions prepared for us.

After a mission is completed, we’ll receive a reward.

The mentioned rewards will vary each time, such as money, compensation, or releases of convenient functions on the tablet.

There’s also clues to the main goal written in here as well.

The time limit is twenty-four hours. If we reach the goal in time, we’ll be given songs and costumes at the end to perform a live.

Niki: Come to think of it, the last treasure in “Labyrinth of the Minotaur” was a new song, wasn’t it? Do they really think that as long there’s a concept of a new song in front of our heads, we’ll desperately grasp for it?

My priorities goes to eating delicious food, not performing songs and live performances! Don’t they get it~?

HiMERU: Let’s treat work as work, Shiina. Besides, think about it; if you get L$ as a result of your efforts, you’ll get food as well.

Happiness is something that money can’t buy, but most desires can be satisfied with it—after all, that’s what capitalism is all about.

Rinne: Alright, I understand the basics of the show and the first feature. So what’s the second function?

HiMERU: The second function is a communication feature. It seems to be prepared for emergency contact.

For example, if there is a problem during filming, we or the staff can contact you.

Rinne: Hm…? So they did set up precautions for this program so there won’t be any backlash to the idols. Looks like they planned on doing somethin’ extra if the shoot’s not enough, huh?

HiMERU: Guess so. That was the original plan for “Number Eight”.

Anyways. The role of the tablet is such as that. All that's left now is to use what we have in the car to somehow reach the goal.

Rinne: Seems like it. It would’ve been better if the tablet had a map or somethin’.

But I guess it’s not that necessary. I've lived in that village for a long time, so I should be able to manage without those map apps.

Welp, there’s a time limit after all, so let’s cut the chitchat, shall we? ♪

Niki: …Rinne-kun?

Rinne: Oh? What is it? Another hungry chorus?

Niki: No, no, that’s not what I was gonna ask.

We haven’t seen anyone else for a while now. Are we alright? We’re not lost, are we?

Rinne: I may not have a map, but I’m definitely not lost.

I’ve gotta travel abroad sooner or later. I’ll be in deep trouble if I can’t even get through this much.

HiMERU: HiMERU agrees. He thinks it’s more of a sense of distance. We should be there in an hour or so, give or take.

You may start preaching to Buddha, Shiina, since you do have a lot of overseas experience, but HiMERU thinks it would be better to be more patient for a little while.

Niki: No, no, no! Please, I don’t wanna start eating any grass around here!

Ah, wait, there’s a tumbleweed rolling over there!

Rinne: Quit complanin’ like a spoiled child, ya messin’ me up! How childish, honestly.

Damn, even Niki can be careless, too, huh? If ya knew this would happen, you would’ve brought some emergency food with ya, right?

Niki: Of course I brought with me an emergency sack. Thing is, I already ate all of the food on the bus and plane!

You underestimate my appetite too much, Rinne-kun. If you’re alive, of course you’re gonna get hungry ♪

Kohaku: T’ be completely fair, this is kinda our fault fer not seein’ this happenin’.

Rinne: ……(glares at Niki)

Niki: Waa, please don’t glare at me, Rinne-kun! Eyes! Eyes on the road!

HiMERU: This situation is only getting worse. We’re nowhere even near completing the first objective yet.

However, Shiina does have a point.

It doesn’t seem like we’re going to arrive at our place any time soon. That in mind, it does stir up some anxiety.

As soon as we arrive in town, we’re going to buy a map using this road ticket we have in the car.

Kohaku: I dunno. Since I can’t really use the internet that well, I’m not really fond of the scenario where I don’t understand the place that well.

There’s a buncha tumbleweeds ‘round here…. A lotta them are just rollin’ around here, just like in one of those Western movies. Is this America, then?

Rinne: Mexico isn’t out of the bucket, either.

Wherever we are, we still have no choice but to keep truckin’. If we keep going, we have to reach a town one way or the other.

…..What the, a signboard just came into view.

Niki: Oooh, we finally got lucky!

I can’t wait anymore! Drive safely, Rinne-kun!

Rinne: Duh, I’m already doing that without being told.

Hold on just a minute, you selfish glutton, I’ll get ya some food in no time……♪

Notes:
1 A dodecahedron is a twelve-sided 3D shape, hence the twelve missions. If you never heard of this shape before, don’t worry, you are not alone. Outside of board games like D&D, it hasn’t really been used anywhere else other than decorative pieces.
