Number Eight - Take a Chance (Chapter 2)

Niki: Whoa, ha…. Ahhh, I really thought I was going to die!!
It’s a complete mistake to be awed by ingredients from abroad back then!
Such dangerous means of transportation is only worth it if I’m gathering rare stuff that grows on cliffs!
Kohaku: What the, so ya wanna throw yerself off of cliffs now…?
Rinne: Alright, looks like everyone enjoyed the parachute experience ☆
And now, the long-awaited overseas location event—“Number Eight”, is about to begin!
Kohaku: “Number Eight”?
Niki: Well isn’t that a fun name~. The pronunciation for “bee” and “eight” are the same, so does that mean we were invited because of our unit name?1
HiMERU: “Number Eight”…HiMERU’s heard of it before.
It used to be a popular travel show, wasn’t it?
The contents of the show involves throwing a special dice that’s specifically made for the program and aim for the goal within the time given, all the while following the instructions that was given by the result of the dice.
The show tended to be too reckless, and eventually was discontinued due to the fact that there were no willing participants. Are we reviving this show for the present age?
Rinne: As expected of MeruMeru. Unlike someone else here who is only interested in food, you’re pretty knowledgeable about this industry ♪
Niki: Hey, was that directed at me?
Rinne: Hm~? Aren’t ya a little too self-conscious?
Leaving Niki aside, let’s continue the conversation.
An old production producer saw our performance on “The Labyrinth of the Minotaur” and made an offer to Crazy:B.
A special program revival that will be broadcasted during prime time! We also get to go abroad for such a wide-scaled show!
But whatever the dice says during this show is absolute! We’ll be tossed along by fate as we enjoy the ride…☆
What’d’y’ll think? It’s the perfect job for us, right?
HiMERU: …hm. HiMERU understands the situation.
The staff who were on board the helicopter are not with us.
He remembers that in the original broadcast, the staff were at the scene, but nowadays, the performance of handheld cameras has improved.
Kohaku: Hey, a car is parked o’er there, and it looks like it’s fer us. Looks too conspicuous t’ be fer anyone else.
Rinne: …..Oi oi oi, what is it? Is it a vehicle that looks uses the overseas style?2
HiMERU: Don’t get your hopes up, it’s an ES company car.
Rinne: Nah, there must be more, like a left-handed vehicle for a place like this!
Niki: To be honest, it’s a bit disappointing. With something like that, it doesn’t seem like we’re currently overseas.
HiMERU: Take a look. A number of cameras are installed in the car. HiMERU supposes this means that we can start shooting.
There’s also a change of clothes…he has no idea where they got it from, but they’re Crazy:B’s practice outfits.
Although, the dice, which is the symbol of the program, is nowhere to be found. Perhaps it means that we’d have to use the app installed on this tablet here that was in the car.
Niki: Really, now. This tablet is designed where only specific apps can be used.
Kohaku: Come t’ think of it, we did have t’ leave our phones and wallets with the staff when we left the country.
It also looks that we can’t open the map icon while we’re on “Number Eight”.
HiMERU: In the original show, the plan was to travel without using a map. HiMERU guesses that part has also been kept in this modern version.
However, “Number Eight” was a harsh variety show that was used for laughs.
Directions were written and made with the dice—many people saw that content as “unreasonable behavior”; it would’ve been nice if that was updated to modern terms.
Niki: “Conpu”—“konbu”? Is that what it says? Sounds like a new seasoning name to me.3
HiMERU: “Compliance with legal law”. If the punishment for the game is too harsh, then the audience will cause an uproar.
Even if there is no immediate legal problem, HiMERU advices you to take it easy.
Rinne: Well, you’re thinking that far, huh?
Still, it’s too much trouble to talk for too long. C‘mon, let’s roll the dice already!
Niki: Sounds good to me! I’m abotta get hungry, anyways, so I wanna leave soon.
Who wants to roll the dice? If no one wants to go first, I can give it a try.
Rinne: Y’all might wanna take a chance. It’ll be a nightmare if Niki gets into a bad mood because of this.
That said though, take responsibility for something you offered! Begging ya here, would you please take care of me first~?
Niki: Alright then, leave it to me…♪
The first challenge is…drumroll please!
HiMERU: “Go out for lunch”…huh. It looks Shiina's wish came true, so the first roll was relatively modest.
Let’s run the car and go to a populated area first.
Rinne: C’mon, leave the driving to me!
I wanted to be able to go to the casino at anytime, so I have an international driver’s license already on hand ♪
Niki: Are you seriously that obsessed with gambling?
Rinne: Ohh~? So does that mean that I have to listen to whatever Niki-kyun says?
Ya sure ya wanna go against me? After all, I'm the only one with a license here, y’know? Do you really wanna move around on foot?
Niki: T-that’s not true! I have absolutely no intention of doing so! That is not what I meant!
Ughh. Rinne-kun wasn’t given the right over life and death4 at the time of the offer, but it’s better to not bargain for something else now.
Rinne: Ah? Did ya say somethin’, Niki~?
If there’s no complaints, then we’re going! First order: “Go out for lunch”!
